Spring Wake Up Call – Follow your Body’s Lead!

Category |

My time of travel came to a close and I arrived back to Canada last week. Being out in the world and out of the familiar wakes me up and provides so much stimulation for the mind, body and spirit in a way that I find quite like nothing else.

Part of my purpose to travel is to shorten the months of central Canadian winter, which can be intense. Early March hopefully brings some sign of spring. The snow and cold recede, and people perk up, coming out of their hunkered down winter hibernation space. The warmth and moisture in the air, the milder temperatures draw us out. I loved receiving reports from home about how the sun and the melting had people wandering in the streets enjoying the sun and puddles.

I appreciate how my body responds to weather and season, especially at the cusps. Since my early 30’s I’ve tuned into the seasons and I take time to notice how the rhythms of light, temperature, sun and rain, interplay with my psyche. I live in the north where we have very distinct seasons. I love the seasons for their particular energies.

But perhaps spring is the best. I call it the wake up season. It’s the season that inspires hope and renewed energy. All around us nature is bursting with vitality. I like to get out each day and immerse myself in its new energy. It helps me slipstream with this vitality, and reminds me of the new life that wants to move in me.

I plant seeds indoors to get a jump-start on the garden. Usually they take a number of days to germinate, but once the first green seeds poke out of the soil, each day they expand in leaps and bounds. As much as I like the end results that happen in June, July and August, that is food for the table, I equally like the metaphor in it—plant seeds, real seeds, and seeds of ideas, seeds of imagination, seeds of feelings and sensations—tend the garden of my life.

What will you grow this season? What new life wants space to put down roots and take hold? What will you create? We are creative creatures—whither this impulse takes the expression of music, writing, art, dancing, singing, or it’s living your life as a creative venture.

Creativity is one of the keys to pleasure. Let this spring energy help you let your creative impulses take root and blossom.

One way to nurture new life and growth is to tune into the energy of the earth as the season shifts. We are not separate from the earth and her cycles. Simple attunement to the seasons can be a great source of pleasure and it supports increased sensory awareness—an essential ingredient in pleasure.

Can you make space to walk outdoors each day? Attune to the subtle shifts of light, temperature, and moisture in the air; hearing the sounds of this season - the bird song increase, water trickling down the street, and the shift in the wind? Notice where this resonates in your body. What effect does it have on your senses?

Let the inspiring energy of spring move in you; bring you awake and alive nurturing new life in you.

“Madeline offers a safe space to explore what it is that blocks our capacity to live in pleasure. She supports us to recognize our unhealthy associations with pleasure, so we can finally open up to that which provides real power, serenity and love.”
