Pleasure - Building Faith and Trust in the Goodness of Life - In-person residential workshop

Pleasure - Building Faith and Trust in the Goodness of Life
In-person Residential Workshop

August 8-13, 2024.
Pendle Hill Quaker Retreat Centre
Philadelphia, PA

Pleasure is a frequently misunderstood concept, and many people have ambivalent feelings about pleasure.  And yet pleasure is one of our healthiest and necessary human instincts.  Pleasure supports healing, increases resiliency and well-being, as well it supports a mindset shift from worry and lack, to ease, confidence, and increased creativity – what are called the “Hallmarks of Pleasure”.

View this recently recorded video and hear about the details of the retreat intensive

In this retreat, we will work with the Guide’s teachings on pleasure as our birthright; the healing balm we need; and the natural state of our being, which we organically embody as we transform negativity.  We will tap into the levels of mind, soma, and spirit, using the Master Key of pleasure to unlock the deep spiritual significance of pleasure.

A central to topic of pleasure is the duality of pleasure and pain – what The Guide calls the “Great Misconception” – that our human experience can be only one or the other.

We know a lot about pain – it grabs our attention and motivates us to change. But what is the spiritual significance of pleasure?  The Pathwork Guide offers it’s easier for humans to tolerate pain, than to acclimatize to deeper states of pleasure.

We have a lot to learn here, and if we’re ever to collectively evolve from our global obsession with pain and suffering – in the forms of war, inequities, and environmental degradation, just to mention a few, then we need desperately, to give as much attention to understanding the true nature and purpose of pleasure.  We need to utilize what the Guide calls the “healing balm of pleasure” for us to heal, and collectively expand our
capacity for it.

This intensive workshop will utilize meditation, movement, process work, poetry, breathe work, silence and stillness, creative expression, and group sharing to support your deep dive into the topic of pleasure and healing.

Who is This Program For?

Is pleasure on your radar?  Are you just waking up to the reality that you want to increase your capacity for pleasure?

Do you want to release inherited negative stereotypes and hang-ups about pleasure?

You’re in a process of trauma recovery and have you been hearing about the power of pleasure as a resource for building resiliency and wellbeing, while toning down the stress response?

Are you wanting support to connect the dots between the everyday pleasures, your sexuality and a spirituality perspective?  That’s radical - I know!

If you said yes to one or more of the questions above, this workshop is relevant for you.

What you can expect to gain from participantion:

Raise the glass ceiling on your capacity to create a life orientated by pleasure.

Deepen your experience of embodied spirituality through an enhanced capacity for pleasure.

Gain a thorough education about pleasure; pleasure is an misunderstood concept – Learn why you need to know more about it; what it can do for you; understand pleasure in its broader definition?

Build personal resiliency through an on-going focus on, and use of pleasure.

Learn how to work with the parts of yourself that don’t yet know pleasure is a good thing, and a necessary element that will create more ease in your life.  We might name these parts as the Grinch, the Naysayer, the one who carries the shame, the angry, resentful one, the one who’s attached to being the victim - all these parts can get brought out of hiding and worked with, as you experience moving the dial on your pleasure capacity from 0-10!

This intensive workshop will give you an in-depth experience with the Unlock Pleasure focus, created by Canadian Senior Helper Madeline Dietrich. This works draws from The Guide Pathwork Lectures, Somatic Experiencing (a body based modality for trauma treatment), Madeline’s many years as a Pathwork student and Helper, and a Somatic Therapist, as well as her own lived experience as a partner and a mother, but fundamentally through it all, as a woman devoted to spiritual development

About the Creator of The Unlock Pleasure Process –

Madeline Dietrich M.A. S.E.P., Senior Pathwork Helper, Somatic Therapist, Teacher, Trainer. Ottawa, Canada.

Pleasure is commonly held to be a prime motivator for all human beings.  For sure it’s an instinct we all have. We’re drawn to even the possibility of pleasure. Yet when the word is spoken aloud, I notice it generates a wide range of powerful responses – curiosity, pent up longing, fear, discomfort, ambivalence, and sometimes down right resistance.

I got curious about our collective unease with pleasure, and how that might be shifted.  As a seasoned therapist, Pathwork Helper and teacher, working with individuals and groups for over 25 years, in Canada and internationally, I want to support you to shift to greater ease with pleasure.

The process of Unlock Pleasure will help you uncover and work with your misconceptions and unconscious beliefs regarding pleasure.  I’ve created teachings and tools that will broaden your understanding and behavior around pleasure, and support you to embrace pleasure for its power to build greater resiliency and wellbeing.

“I had signed up for the workshop with a vague idea of validating whether or not beekeeping was something I wanted to get back into, so wanted the real experience and ‘instruction’ around hive life.  But I also wanted to spend time in the imaginative life of beekeeping – so the poetry, and your story of bees as a significant part of your healing journey was really important.  Sensing into your relationship with them - the calm, the respect, the love – was an important part of witnessing how a relationship with bees teaches those very things.  I loved how the different activities dove-tailed so well into one another.  The ‘energy meditation’ of approaching the hive taught me well about respect for boundaries, and the deep purposefulness of their lives.  We can co-exist beautifully as long as I ‘let them bee.’ “
